Guide
Eight Amazon Associates alternatives grouped by job: brand networks, auto-linkers and niche specialists, with cookies, payout terms and a plan for moving your best links first.

Amazon Associates is the easiest affiliate program to join and one of the hardest to earn well from. Commissions run from 1% to 20% depending on category, the cookie lasts 24 hours, and Amazon can change its rates whenever it likes, as it did in April 2020 when it cut several categories, including home and furniture, in a single notice.
This guide is for content publishers and review sites that already send buyers to Amazon and want better-paying homes for some of those clicks. It covers eight Amazon alternatives, what job each one does, and how to move traffic without losing the conversion rate that makes Amazon useful in the first place.

Amazon converts because shoppers already trust it and already have an account. The trouble is everything around that conversion:
None of that means you should drop Amazon. It means Amazon should be one link option among several, chosen on purpose rather than by default.

Alternatives fall into three groups, and they solve different problems.
Impact.com, CJ Affiliate, Awin, Rakuten Advertising and FlexOffers connect you to individual brands that set their own commission, cookie and approval rules. You apply to each brand, deep-link to its own store, and usually get longer cookies and better rates in exchange for more admin.
Skimlinks and Sovrn //Commerce sit on top of many networks at once. You add one script, and ordinary outbound product links turn into affiliate links automatically. You give up a share of commission (Skimlinks keeps roughly 25%) in exchange for never filling in a per-brand application.
AvantLink focuses on outdoor, sports and lifestyle merchants and holds both sides to stricter standards. If your site covers one vertical deeply, a specialist network often carries the exact merchants your readers already buy from.
The figures below come from Affground's directory listings. Inside each network, individual brands set their own rates and cookies, so treat these as platform-level terms.
| Platform | Type | Merchants (approx.) | Cookie | Payment schedule | Minimum payout |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon Associates | Single retailer | One store, huge catalog | 24 hours | About 60 days after month end | $10 (direct deposit) |
| Impact.com | Brand network | 30,000+ | Set by brand | NET-15 | $25 |
| CJ Affiliate | Brand network | 4,000+ | Set by brand | NET-30 | $50 |
| Awin | Brand network | 21,000+ | Set by brand | Monthly | $20 |
| Rakuten Advertising | Brand network | 2,500+ | Set by brand | NET-60 | $50 |
| FlexOffers | Brand network | 12,000+ | Set by brand | NET-30 | $50 |
| Skimlinks | Auto-linker | 48,500+ | Set by merchant | Monthly | About $65 |
| Sovrn //Commerce | Auto-linker | 60,000+ | Set by merchant | Monthly | $25 |
| AvantLink | Niche network | About 700 | Typically 7 to 30 days | Monthly | $25 |
The column that matters most is the cookie. Moving a product from a 24-hour window to a 30-day one changes which sales count as yours, especially for anything people research for days before buying.

Where each one fits:
Don't migrate everything at once. Sort your links by the job they do, then give each group its best home.
| Link situation | Best home | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Top revenue pages recommending one brand | That brand through a network | Longer cookie and a rate you can negotiate |
| Long-tail product mentions across hundreds of posts | An auto-linker | No per-brand applications |
| Low-price, impulse and everyday items | Amazon | Trust and checkout speed still win |
| One deep vertical, such as outdoor gear | A niche network | Merchants your readers already use |
Start with the pages that earn the most, because a better rate there moves revenue fastest. Leave Amazon on low-ticket and impulse links, where its conversion rate usually beats a higher percentage somewhere shoppers have never bought before.
Amazon Associates is a good default and a bad monopoly. Keep it for low-ticket and impulse links, move your highest-value recommendations to brand networks with longer cookies, and let an auto-linker monetise the long tail. That mix spreads risk across several partners, so no single policy change can take your income to zero.
It depends on the job. For brand-by-brand programs with longer cookies, Impact.com, CJ Affiliate and Awin cover the most merchants. For hands-off monetisation of many product links, Skimlinks or Sovrn //Commerce are the closest match to Amazon's convenience. Outdoor and lifestyle sites should also look at AvantLink.
Yes. Most publishers run Amazon alongside one or more networks. You still need to follow Amazon's own linking and disclosure rules on the pages where you use Amazon links.
Usually. Amazon's cookie lasts 24 hours, extended only for items added to the cart. Inside networks, each brand sets its own window, and 30 days or more is common.
They do different jobs. Skimlinks automatically monetises links to tens of thousands of merchants and keeps roughly 25% of commissions as a fee, while Amazon pays you directly but only for Amazon purchases within a short window. Many sites use both, with Amazon links excluded from the auto-linker.
Among the platforms in this guide, Impact.com lists NET-15 payments, while Amazon pays roughly 60 days after the end of the month in which a sale happened. Individual brands can still hold commissions until returns windows close.
Affiliate networks and auto-linkers are separate businesses with their own approval processes, so a closed Amazon account doesn't stop you applying to them. Fix whatever caused the closure, such as missing disclosures, before you apply elsewhere.
Joining a network is usually straightforward, but each brand inside it reviews your site separately. Brands approve faster when you already publish content about their products and show a clear audience fit.
